Foundation
I was overwhelmed to lay the foundation stone of “GKB International School” on 30 th November 2018, at Rupahi under the jurisdiction of Salbari sub-division. The proposed English Medium School to be affiliated to CBSE was to start functioning from the academic year 2019. This noble initiative of Balen Basumatary, an Ex- SPG to commemorate his beloved father Ghana Kanta Basumatary, a martyr of Bodoland Movement is indeed praise worthy. It is expected that his initiative will be able to cater to the needs of the local people and will prove boon to the generations. Foundation stone led by Mohan Ch. Basumatary, Asst. Teacher Rupohi Senior Secondary School.

Inauguration
In view of the continued failure of the Government policy for implementation of the educational policy, it has been imperative on the part of the public in general to take initiative for establishing educational institutions, at private sectors as an alternative Balen Basmutary has taken up such an initiative by establishing GKB International School in the memory of his beloved father ,in the remote part of Baksa district to cater to the needs of the backward people with a view to imparting education at an affordable cost. I hope this initiative will be greatly rewarded with the participation of the mass people. School was inagurated by Mr. Ratneshwar Das, Founder Principal Salbari College.

One Day Workshop on Transformative Pedagogy
Teaching and learning through transformational practices has become the new priority of educational system in all the institutes and schools. Transformative pedagogy empowers both teachers and learners to engage in dialogue to co-construct meaning from educational material and experiences through an inquiry-based approach. It encourages learners to be reflective and critical thinkers who are able to contribute meaningfully as members of local and global communities. It also redefines role of teachers. Teachers become facilitators with the disposition, knowledge, skills and commitment to support students to develop their full potential in becoming actual human. It is a combination of constructivist and critical pedagogy that empowers students to examine critically of their beliefs, values, and knowledge with the goal of developing a reflective knowledge base, an appreciation for multiple perspectives, and a sense of critical consciousness and agency. A transformative pedagogy underlies and contributes to the extent of the change in student’s behavior, participation, engagement and learning outcomes. To operationalize education associated with sustainability, teaching approaches must focus on elements relating to the processes of learning, rather than the accumulation of knowledge, develop graduates with capabilities to improvise, adapt, innovate, and be creative. Thus, on 2nd July 2019, a daylong PD program on transformative pedagogy was conducted for the teachers of GKB International School, Rupahi, Baksa District of Assam facilitated by Mr.Chokey Dorji from Nganglam, Bhutan, accompanied by 5 other teachers from the same school. This new initiative came as inspirational from Mr. Ugyen Pempa, who joined GKB International School as new Principal from Bhutan. The Proprietor Mr. Balen Basumatary further supported the idea ensuring the successful conduct of the program. This workshop would remain as a memorable and inspirational one in the history of GKB International School since it is first of its kind in sharing educational ideas from a foreign land that would benefit the school in shaping its children with enrichment of teaching pedagogy of its teachers. Further, it will also remain as milestone in further strengthening the close ties between people of Bhutan with its neighbor state of Assam. The old age tradition and culture of sharing special friendship between the two neighboring people can be boosted with such simple activities.
